Our SkyArt printed canopies are on pause at the moment due to a colour discolouration issue. This does not affect the flight performance of the canopy, it is purely an aesthetic issue. However, we feel the final printing result is below our level of quality and have ceased all printing until we can resolve this issue.
So what caused the discolouration?
We think the discolouration may have been caused by a change in the coating of our ZP fabric (the fabric manufacturer made this change and has not affected the quality of the fabric in any way). In order to produce the best result, the print needs to 'soak' into the fabric, but with the change in the coating, this is not happening and the dye is then printing onto other parts of the canopy.
Why is it taking so long to come up with a solution?
We've been looking into this for some time, but as we are dealing with multiple companies, it takes time to get answers. Up until the first lockdown in New Zealand, we only had a handful of cases which was not enough to discover the cause of the issue. Since then (and after our logos were sat for long periods of time), the discolouration issue became much more evident and provided a broader range of examples to work from.
We are currently still in the testing phase to see if we can find a solution to this issue, so right now, we don't have a lot of answers or solutions. We know this will be frustrating, but trust us when we say we are frustrated too!
Is there an alternative to a printed design?
Yes! We've decided to bring back our 'old school' way of making logos - cut & sew. Head to our Help Centre article 'JYRO Cut & Sew FAQs' to more information on the process, specifications and how to order.
